I always enjoy your writing a lot. I think you do a wonderful job bringing together two very important topics. It's kind of niche but also I think a lot of students in college would benefit a lot from it if they stumbled upon it. Keep up the great work and can't wait to see your book!

These are really useful reflections, Ryan, especially your thoughts on how running College Towns blurs the line between scholarship and journalism. Substack seems to create a much needed space for this kind of work, and your authenticity, openness to feedback, and willingness to “learn out loud” makes College Towns feel alive.

I’m still on Twitter and active on LinkedIn, but Substack is where I’m finding the intellectual community these days, and College Towns is a big part of that. I’ve learned a lot from you this year.

Excited to see how the College Towns Research Grant (CTRG) goes. It's a bold experiment worth trying. And your book too. You’re modeling what it looks like for academics to write with both rigor and reach. Happy 1st birthday!

Thanks, Chris. Yes, I think in my long rambling post that might have been the more interesting thought. I do not yet know how exactly that would work yet (sort of like altmetrics? or something else?). But it does seem to be a good bet on the future of all of this.
