I find the senior driver debate a bit obnoxious and tedious. They are not meaningfully more dangerous than younger drivers despite being far more fragile and thus presumably more likely to be the fatality in a fatal crash. Like the idea of "no driving past 75 but you can still drive at 18" is entirely arbitrary and you have a better chance of building a skyscraper in Manhattan, KS than you do convincing anyone that 18 is too young to drive.
This is why I am more into the idea of street redesign. The arguments and cut offs just aren’t going to reach a consensus, so we will just be spinning wheels over and over. Bollards can be plopped down yesterday.
That and actually treating individual licenses like a privilege. No idea if this ever came across your radar but California just kinda gave up revoking licenses in a pretty infuriating way. https://calmatters.org/investigation/2025/04/license-to-kill/
I did yes. Linked to it in an older piece on a drink driver killing a kid walking to school that happened in town over from me. It is crazy. Seems like it would be an easy win for a political leader to reform. https://www.collegetowns.org/p/why-parents-tolerate-terrible-school
